How to fill a PDF

Three simple steps
  1. 01

    Open the form

Choose your PDF. Supported interactive fields appear in the editor; use the Forms control to show them when needed.

  2. 02

    Add your answers

Type into available fields, tick checkboxes and select from supported choices. If the page has no interactive fields, use Text to place your answers instead.

  3. 03

    Check and save a copy

Review every page, including dates and selected options. Download the completed PDF, open the saved copy and confirm the answers appear correctly.

Interactive and flat forms work differently

An interactive PDF has built-in fields that a viewer can select. A flat form is just page content, sometimes a scan. PDFOnHand can fill supported interactive fields; for flat forms, the text and annotation tools let you place answers visually on top of the page.

Start with a short test

Some forms use advanced scripts, special formatting or field types that a browser editor may not fully support. Fill one or two fields and download a test copy before completing a long form. If an organization requires a particular application, use that application.

Finish with the right signature

You can place a drawn, typed or image signature using Sign PDF. That is a visual signature, without a certificate, identity verification or audit trail. Check the recipient’s requirements before relying on it for an official submission.

Good to know

A few common questions.

Can I fill a form that has no clickable fields?

Yes. Use the Text tool to put answers on the page. These additions are placed visually; they do not create new interactive fields.

Can I create a fillable PDF?

This workflow fills supported existing fields and adds content to flat forms. It is not a full interactive form builder.

Are my form answers sent to PDFOnHand?

No. Document processing and form values stay in your browser. The saved result is downloaded to your device.
