How to split a PDF

Three simple steps

    Open your PDF

    Choose a PDF and check its page count. Page numbers in the split tool refer to the file’s actual page order, starting at 1.

    Choose how to split

    Enter custom ranges such as 1-2, 3-5, 6-, split every set number of pages, or choose one file per page. Include your edits if you want them in the results.

  3. 03

    Download your files

    Run the split. Multiple results download together in a ZIP; a single resulting part downloads as a PDF. Open the files to verify the pages.

Page ranges made practical

For an eight-page document, 1-2, 3-5, 6- creates three PDFs: pages 1–2, pages 3–5, and pages 6–8. An open-ended range continues to the end. Use separate ranges when each section needs its own file.

Split or extract?

Splitting makes separate files from groups of pages. If you want selected pages combined into one new PDF, use Extract pages inside All tools instead. For example, extraction is the better choice for collecting pages 2, 5 and 8 into a single handout.

Watch for printed page labels

A report’s printed page numbers may start after a cover and contents page. The tool uses physical PDF pages, not labels such as “iii” or “Chapter 1.” Check thumbnails before entering ranges so you do not leave out a cover or include the wrong page.

Good to know

A few common questions.

Can I split every two pages?

Yes. Choose the “Every” option and enter 2. The final file can contain fewer pages if the total is not evenly divisible.

Will my added text appear in the split files?

Select “Include my edits” to include supported text, images, annotations, signatures, form values and OCR from the current editing session.

Why did I receive a ZIP file?

A ZIP keeps multiple output PDFs in one download. Extract it with your operating system’s built-in archive tool to access the individual files.
